We will be having Family History sessions taking place throughout January, February and April at our Awen Libraries.
There will be drop-in sessions, and workshops taking place. The sessions will be taken by our own Local Studies Library Assistant, Anna Rankin.
The workshops will be at the following libraries, on the following dates, at the following times:
Bridgend Library – Thursday 19th January – 10am – 12pm
Betws Library – Tuesday 14th March – 10am – 12pm
Porthcawl Library – Tuesday 14th February – 10am – 12pm
Pencoed Library – Tuesday 4th April – 10am – 12pm
In these workshops, Anna will be showing you how to use Ancestry. Ideal for those with little or no experience and want to learn more. People are welcome to follow along using the PCs, but there is no pressure if you want to learn by watching. We will show you how to create a search for births, marriages and deaths, before moving on to the census, parish registers and problems you may encounter. We all hit brick walls along the way, so we will discuss other methods of performing your searches. It will give you an insight as to what resources are available at your local library and at Y Llynfi, our local and family history library.
The drop-in sessions will be at the following libraries, on the following dates, at the following times:
Aberkenfig Library – Thursday 12th January – 2-4pm
Pyle Library – Thursday 2nd February – 10am-12pm
Maesteg Library – Thursday 9th February – 2pm-4pm
These drop-in sessions are ideal for those who have hit a brick wall and want some help, advice, or a fresh pair of eyes! We can try wildcards on Ancestry and other possible sources of information available from the library.
Please note that booking in advance isn’t required.
