“Art that made us” at Maesteg Library

bod1
As part of the ‘Art that made us’ festival we’re displaying one of the largest books in our Awen Collections in Maesteg library from 19th-24th April. There will also be a special children’s trail in the library, as well as Egyptian-themed Storytimes.

The ‘Book of the Dead’ shows texts from ancient Egypt, written on papyrus around 3000 years ago. The texts include drawings and magic spells. These texts would be placed in the tomb or coffin of a dead person – Egyptians believed this would help dead people on their journey to the afterlife.

This book is over 23 inches (or 60 centimetres) tall; it has to be this big to fit the illustrations of the original papyrus scrolls.

Free entry and everybody welcome!
